Turkish authorities plan to rebuild 30,000 homes in the earthquake-affected areas

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said today, Tuesday, that the devastating earthquakes that rocked his country last week were “as strong as atomic bombs” and killed 35,418 people in southern Turkey.
He added that hundreds of thousands of buildings are no longer habitable in southern Turkey, and that “any country would have faced the problems we faced in light of such a disaster.”
According to the Turkish president, the recent earthquake is the deadliest disaster since the founding of the country 100 years ago.
Erdogan said that 105,505 people were injured as a result of the earthquake that hit Kahramanmaraş on February 6.

Erdogan was speaking in Ankara following a five-hour cabinet meeting at the headquarters of the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD).
Erdogan also announced that the Turkish authorities plan to rebuild 30,000 homes in the earthquake-affected areas starting in March.
He said, “We are planning to build 30,000 homes in the first phase. This process will start in March. Now search and rescue operations are continuing in the regions, and they will continue until the last survivor is rescued.”
