Many tourists welcomed the first day of the new year in the sky by riding balloons in the famous Cappadocia region of Nevsehir state, central Turkey.
With the rising of the sun, balloons carrying tourists took off on a tour over the unique features of the region, especially the rock formations known as “fairy chimneys”.
In an interview with Anadolu Agency, British tourist Elizabeth Glad said that she is visiting Cappadocia for the first time, expressing her great admiration for the region.
“It’s an amazing place,” she said. “I mightn’t think of a more unique place to start 2023. It was like a dream start.”
In turn, the Lebanese tourist, Elissa Atallah, said, “The balloon tour in which I participated in Cappadocia was a beautiful experience for me,” stressing that she is having a good time in the region.
Cappadocia is the center of hot air ballooning in the world, with the largest number of balloon flights taking place throughout the year.
The region is characterized by one of the most exotic and beautiful landscapes in the world, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has classified it as a World Heritage Site.
The region is most famous for its “fairy chimneys” or “Devil’s Tables”, which are stones in the form of columns topped with rocks that look like mushrooms, formed naturally as a result of the influence of winds and weather factors.
Visitors to Cappadocia can enjoy seeing historical monuments and scenic natural sites from the air by balloon tours, during quad bike tours or on foot, and visit underground cities dating back thousands of years.
