Turkey has banned the websites of the official news agencies of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The move comes at a time when Saudi Arabia banned Turkey’s official media websites earlier this month.
According to the report of the foreign news agency Reuters, the Turkish authorities blocked the websites of the official broadcasters and news agencies of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Turkey’s move comes four weeks after Turkish prosecutors indicted 20 people at the Saudi embassy in Istanbul for the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Internet users in Turkey trying to access dozens of other websites, including Saudi news outlets, receive a message that these Internet publications are blocked by law.
A spokesman for Turkey’s Ministry of Justice declined to comment, while Saudi Arabia’s official media office also declined to immediately respond to Reuters’ request.
The Turkish website of the British Independent newspaper, which is run by a Saudi company, was also among the websites that were shut down.
On this move, the editor of the website said that it is due to political tension between Riyadh and Ankara.
Editor Nowzar Chichak said that “We believe that the tension between Saudi Arabia and Turkey has affected us, this decision was in revenge for Saudi Arabia”.
It should be noted that at the beginning of this month, Saudi Arabia closed the broadcasting website TRT along with the Turkish news agency Anadolu.
According to Anatolo, the Al-Mursad newspaper of Saudi Arabia said that they have learned from their sources that a ban has been imposed on many Turkish media organizations on April 11.
He said that ‘Anatolu Agency is one of these media organizations’.
Riyadh’s move comes as Istanbul prosecutors announced last month that they had decided to indict 20 Saudi nationals for the murder of Jamal Khashoggi.
Among these 20 Saudi nationals are the deputy head of Saudi Arabia’s General Intelligence and a former royal adviser.
It should be noted that the murder of Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi Embassy in Istanbul on October 2018 was a global outcry, which also damaged the reputation of the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman.
Some Western governments, including the CIA, believe that Mohammed bin Salman ordered the killing, but Saudi officials have denied the allegations.
