It would be difficult not to follow the Turkish authorities out of respect for the principle which states that any claim must be made by peaceful means and not by violent actions, of which civilians who have nothing to do with these conflicts are the victims.
This is what the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union have done, whose Court of Justice has rejected the PKK’s request to remove it from the list of terrorist organizations. For the Court, the PKK is a “terrorist organization”. In particular, she referred to the 2014 UK and US resolutions banning the PKK in 1997 and 2001.
For President Erdogan, “Turkey is now a place where they (the terrorists) are drowning”, he declared on December 6th. “Our enemies will know their place. When we are faced with a threat to our survival, we can achieve victories that no one expects,” he said.
Separatist movements are not rare throughout the world and the case of Catalans who want to emancipate themselves from the Kingdom of Spain is emblematic. Everything is played out at the political level and it is the constitution which has imposed its rules. There were certainly demonstrations, but all peaceful, no weapons, no bombs, no attacks. The international community will never accept an entity that has imposed itself through terrorism.
