Turkey: Electric vehicle market share will rise in 2021

The global electric vehicle market share increased 41 times in 10 years and reached 8.3 percent.

Last year, electric vehicle sales totaled 6.75 million, up 108 percent from the previous year.

Within the scope of the goals to combat climate change, countries are accelerating the transition to low-carbon technologies to reduce consumption of fossil fuels. Despite the importance of electric vehicles in reducing emissions from the transportation sector, the investments of automobile brands and brand models in the field are increasing rapidly.

And the transformation of the electric car market is reflected in sales at the same pace. All the net growth in the global auto market last year came from electric vehicles.

According to information collected from EV-volumes.com, global electric vehicle sales reached an all-time high of 6.75 million in 2021, a 108 percent increase over the previous year. Electric vehicle sales reached 3.24 million in 2020 despite the pandemic.

While the market share of electric vehicles was 0.2 percent in 2012, it reached 8.3 percent with record sales last year. Thus, electric vehicles increased their market share 41 times in 10 years.

Last year also saw the largest annual growth in the past 10 years in electric vehicles.

China was the country with the most electric vehicle sales last year, at 3.4 million. Sales in China increased 155 percent, or 2.06 million, over the previous year.

While 2.3 million electric cars were sold in Europe, this number increased by 66% compared to 2020. While the United States of America ranked third with 735,000 electric cars sold, and 114 thousand 500 electric cars were sold in South Korea. Sales of electric cars in Israel, Australia, India and Japan exceeded 10 thousand.

Annual consumption of electric cars equals electricity generation in Ireland

According to data from the International Energy Agency (IEA), 130,000 electric cars were sold year-round in 2012, while this figure was reached in a week in 2021.

It is reported that following last year’s sales, the total number of electric cars in the world reached 16 million.

The total electricity consumption of electric vehicles in the world was 30 TWh in 2021. This amount is equal to one year’s electricity production in Ireland.

And Tesla ranked first with 936,000 in electric vehicle sales last year. The largest number of Tesla cars were sold in the United States with 352 thousand, China with 321 thousand, and Europe with 170 thousand.

The Volkswagen Group was followed by Tesla with 763 thousand, BYD with 598 thousand, GM with 517 thousand, and Stilants with 385 thousand.

Global electric vehicle sales are expected to smash the 2021 range this year, breaking the record.
