The mega tourist complex of Itaipu (Turismo Itaipu), achieves ISO 9001 recertification

Turismo Itaipu was the first tourist attraction in Brazil to receive certification from the international quality management standard, in 2012; Since then, external audits have recertified the achievement of international standards of excellence.

Consolidating the promotion of incredible, planned and sustainable tourist experiences, the Itaipu Tourist Complex (CTI), managed by the Itaipu Technological Park (PTI), has just been awarded the recertification of ISO 9001:2015, an international standard that establishes requirements for a Quality Management System.

Continuous improvement

Recognized worldwide, the certification focuses on continuous improvement, customer satisfaction and ensuring the conformity of products or services offered by companies.

PTI tourism director, Yuri Benites, explains that PTI has been responsible for the management and operation of the Tourist Complex since 2007, with a tourism management model aimed at ensuring economic and financial viability and contribution to regional development. “In its more than 16 years of existence, around 7 million visitors from Brazil and the world have been able to discover the attractions of Itaipu Binacional”.

Currently, the experiences offered to visitors by the CTI are: Itaipu Panorâmica, Itaipu Especial (with part of the itinerary inside the hydroelectric plant), Itaipu Refúgio Biológico, Itaipu Iluminada (illumination of the dam), Itaipu Iluminada Especial (Route with dinner at the Restaurante dos Barrageiros), Itaipu By Bike and visit to the Ecomuseum exhibitions.

The Itaipu Complex, the first tourist attraction in Brazil

Turismo Itaipu was the first tourist attraction in Brazil to gain certification, in 2012, with ISO 9001. Since this milestone, official certifiers of the standard have attested, through external audits, to the good management and operation of the CTI. With the update of the standard, starting in 2017, the attraction began to receive ISO 9001:2015.

CTI general manager, Marcelo Giongo, says that ISO 9001 aims to establish the requirements for a quality management system, focusing on customer satisfaction, standardization and continuous improvement of processes. “With certification, Turismo Itaipu consolidates what it sets out to deliver, experiences that connect with our audience, creating memories, promoting knowledge and well-being.”

Recognitions

The recertification of ISO 9001:2015 is another reason for CTI to celebrate in 2023. This year, for the fourth consecutive time, Turismo Itaipu received the Travelers’ Choice seal, granted by the travel website TripAdvisor, considered one of the most important in the sector in the world.

Recently, the Sustainable Tourism Management Model was also awarded by the Ministry of Tourism, in third place in the 2023 National Tourism Award, Tourism Governance and Management category. Furthermore, the creation of the tourism board, following the restructuring of the Itaipu Technological Park, further consolidates the objective for the scientific, technological and sustainable development of the sector.

Although Itaipu Binacional, as an energy generator, is controlled by the State… its surroundings, although still suffering certain interference, can be visited and enjoyed within limitations; justifiable (riding the bus) of course within the parameters outlined by the not-so-open administration with different leisure limits; offered by the city.

Despite the lack of unique items that the private sector would certainly add, it is still worth visiting.
