Turbulent scouts mess up Bièvre: the mayor decides to punish them in an original way

The municipality of Bièvre is used to hosting many scout camps and this influx can sometimes cause some problems. A small group of eight scouts on a hike (thus without the leaders) heckled a few days ago in the village of Baillamont to the point of boring some children.

The acting mayor of Bièvre, Michel Modave, chose to punish the turbulent scouts, but not by way of fines for the leaders: “I asked them to clean the Baillamont cemetery and repaint the ironwork“Explains the mayor to us. An alternative solution, decided in agreement with the leaders of these scouts, useful to the community and which must raise their awareness:”We discussed with them at the end, there is a questioning, they reflect, I think it’s successful“rejoices Michel Modave

This method had already been used with another group of scouts last year, “now we hesitate more, when possible” he clarifies. “We are rather moving towards something constructive rather than simply sticking to fines and warnings. We also do it at the same time, but it is important that there is a restorative act“.

Could a system like this be used on a larger scale in the municipality? “I never thought of applying this more widely than the scouts, but it can give some ideas!” he laughs.

Between July 15 and August 15, 5,000 scouts stopped at Bièvre.
