During a press conference organized in this regard in Tunis, the CEO of TT, Lassâad Ben Dhiab, unveiled this technological advance which promises to transform the way Tunisians live, work and innovate in the digital world, at a time when speed is becoming a reality and the digital web woven by Tunisie Telecom is redefining the limits of what is possible.
A turning point in transformation technological
The CEO of TT said that this achievement marks a turning point in the technological transformation of the operator which offers high-speed connections, thus opening new opportunities for end users, business partners and technology enthusiasts. He also recalled that the first section of optical fiber installed in Tunisia only measured 4 km. Today, this network extends over an impressive distance of 50,000 km, testifying to Tunisie Telecom’s constant progress in modernizing its access network.
But the headline announcement of the press conference was the launch of optical fiber offering a remarkable speed of 1 gigabit per second for individual customers. Ben Dhiab stressed that this connection far exceeds traditional speeds, offering a faster Internet experience than usual connections and that the operator is actively preparing the ground for the future by making optical fiber widespread. This technological advancement will strengthen the connectivity of radio sites, allowing secure and unlimited connectivity.

Optical fiber, pillar of innovation technological
The head of Tunisie Telecom highlighted the importance of making optical fiber accessible to as many people as possible, highlighting the ease of access it offers and the opportunities it opens up for even more innovative projects. He also communicated on Tunisie Telecom’s considerable investments in international submarine cables, stressing that this infrastructure allows the company to connect Tunisian citizens internationally.

Ben Dhiab also highlighted the massive deployment of optical fiber throughout the country, connecting more than 7,000 nodes via the Tunisie Telecom optical fiber network. This proximity to optical fiber facilitates customer access and meets growing connectivity needs. At the same time, he revealed Tunisia Telecom’s ambitious plans for the future, aiming to offer 100% fiber access to residential customers. He announced that nearly 200,000 fiber optic ports will be available by the end of the year, with a goal of 500,000 ports by 2025.
The CEO of TT also highlighted the network modernization program, exceeding 75% completion, which considerably improves the quality of service. This program includes the replacement of copper cables with active optical fibers, reducing the limitations of previous technologies and increasing service availability.
Tests in real conditions
Ben Dhiab concluded by highlighting the achievements of Tunisie Telecom, including tests in real conditions with existing customers on live 5G networks. He highlighted that technological advancements, such as 1.5 and 1 gigabyte speeds, are a concrete demonstration of the company’s commitment to innovation and delivering exceptional speeds.
By emphasizing the capacity of optical fiber, Ben Dhiab mentioned the possibility of providing a speed of 1 giga over distances ranging from 6 to 10 km. This high throughput opens the door to an enhanced user experience, enabling impact-free home connectivity for a growing number of people, as well as bandwidth-intensive activities such as streaming and video.
He also underlined the importance of optical fiber in technological development, highlighting its essential role in the development of 5G, while highlighting the complementarity of these technologies and Tunisie Telecom’s commitment to remaining in line. in line with the national strategy, thus providing cutting-edge connectivity to its users.
