Tunisian Anas Jaber became the first African and Arab tennis player to win the WTI 1000 title, following winning the Madrid Open.
The tenth-ranked player stumbled at the beginning of the match with a 1-4 delay, and did not win any match from the second round, but she was able to return and beat American Jessica Pegula with a final score of 5-7, 6-0, 2-6.
Jaber won the second title in her career, following winning the Birmingham Championship last year.
She is the first Arab player to be ranked among the top ten in the list of the best players. This is superior to male Arab players as well.
Jaber faced the loss of the first set in the tenth encounter full of errors, but she survived and returned and won the set with a strong counter kick at the 54th minute.
Despite a difficult start for Pegula in the second set, she broke and won three rounds of serving the Tunisian, and it was her turn to attack and win the second set in six rounds in less than 30 minutes.
Anas Jaber maintained her momentum following the fourth round of the deciding set, to finally fall to her knees following securing the victory.
