In Tunisia, the opposition does not take off. Sunday, once more at the call of the National Salvation Front, several activists took to the streets of Tunis to demand the release of their leaders imprisoned since February on charges of acts of terrorism and conspiracy once morest state security.
Since the beginning of February, the authorities have imprisoned more than 20 opponents and personalities including ex-ministers, businessmen and the owner of the most listened to radio station in the country, Radio Mosaïque. Present at the demonstration, Samir Ben Amor, head of the Republican Party, an opposition party, demanded a dialogue to save Tunisia: “we are calling today for a national dialogue to draw up a roadmap to save Tunisia, put an end to what began in July 2021 when President Kaïs Saied took full power, and return to the democratic path. »
These arrests are denounced by local and international NGOs and target, among others, senior executives of the National Salvation Front and its main component, the Islamist-inspired party Ennahada. President Kais Saied called those arrested terrorists. Belgacem Hassen, of the FSN, asked on Sunday that the “prosecution or justice take over (from the police, editor’s note) and present the charges once morest the detainees to the Tunisian people”.
The demonstrators also evoked the rejection a few days ago by President Saied “of the dictates of the IMF” with which Tunisia has been in talks for months for financial aid of nearly 2 billion dollars.
