Tunisia immerses TICAD in the quicksand of the Polisario

Guinea-Bissau Umaro Sissoco Embalo shunned the 8th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).

Supposed to be a development forum, the Japan-Africa Economic Summit (TICAD) is turning into a diplomatic crisis. Protesting against the invitation addressed to the leader of the separatist movement Polisario, Brahim Ghali, welcomed Friday August 26, 2022 with fanfare and carpet by the Tunisian president, Kaïs Saïed, Morocco boycotted the summit, moreover recalling its ambassador for consultation. Tunisia did the same on Saturday, which makes observers say that the two countries are not far from the breaking line. Basically, some allied countries of Morocco expressed their astonishment to the Tunisian president. The Bissau-Guinean president, Umaro Cissoco Embalo, current president of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), withdrew from the summit in protest.
