Tunisia is still turning off the tap. The Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture announced on Saturday September 30 that it would extend its measures relating to restrictions on drinking water, as well as the ban on its use in agriculture. These provisions will remain in place until further notice, while the first ones were imposed in March.
Tunisia has been plagued by drought for five years.
In March, the North African country began shutting off water at night and banning its use in agriculture. The deadline of September 30 was then brought forward.
Tunis authorities also prohibit the use of drinking water to wash cars, water green spaces and clean streets and public places.
Anyone who violates this ban faces a fine and a prison sentence of six days to six months.
