Tracked by several French clubs, young Patrick Tuifua should ultimately continue his career with New Zealand Super Rugby.
Patrick Tuifua, a young 20-year-old third row, has decided to stay in New Zealand to try his luck in Super Rugby with the Hurricanes. “I decided to stay in New Zealand”he confided to our colleagues at The Team. Tuifua, born in New Caledonia and trained at Lindisfarne College, hopes to land a permanent contract after a pre-season which begins at the end of November. “My dream since childhood remains to play Super Rugby. I don’t want to have regrets.”
Although sought after by Top 14 clubs, notably Stade Rochelais and Toulon, Tuifua favored his dream of New Zealand rugby. However, he does not rule out playing for France. “The French proposals interested me, but I want to try my luck here until the end”he explained, while remaining open to the possibility of one day wearing the Blues jersey.

**Patrick**: Absolutely. I appreciate the interest from the clubs, and it’s exciting to know that they see potential in me. However, I have my sights set on Super Rugby in New Zealand, where I believe I can grow even more as a player.
**Interviewer**: That’s a bold move! What influenced your decision to pursue a career in New Zealand’s Super Rugby?
**Patrick**: New Zealand has a rich rugby culture and an emphasis on skill development. Playing there would give me the chance to learn from some of the best and compete at a higher level, which is crucial for my growth as a player.
**Interviewer**: What are your personal goals for the upcoming season?
**Patrick**: My goal is to contribute effectively to my team, improve my game, and hopefully earn a place in a Super Rugby squad. I want to make my family proud and show that all the hard work has been worth it.
**Interviewer**: It sounds like you have a clear vision for your future. Lastly, any advice for young players aspiring to reach your level?
**Patrick**: Stay focused and put in the hard work. Don’t be afraid to take risks and pursue your dreams. And, of course, always keep learning from every opportunity you get on and off the field.
