Tuberculosis cases down in UAE; What was beneficial was surveillance and prevention

DUBAI – The Ministry of Health and Prevention said that the rate of tuberculosis in the UAE is low compared to the global level. This achievement was attributed to collaborative efforts between the Ministry and local health authorities to implement effective prevention strategies and programs to control and prevent the disease.

The Ministry has developed an efficient system to standardize surveillance methods and consistently provide effective drugs. The number of tuberculosis specialists was increased and screening programs were implemented. Also, children are vaccinated at birth as a preventive measure. The Ministry explained these matters in a statement issued on March 24, World Tuberculosis Day.

The UAE is actively involved in adopting a regional strategy to eradicate tuberculosis at the Eastern Mediterranean level. It is also committed to supporting international efforts through scientific research, innovative solutions and medicines to end the disease by 2050. The Ministry has launched various health initiatives and programs that engage the community to increase awareness of tuberculosis and promote the importance of early diagnosis, vaccination and infection prevention using the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Global Strategy to Defeat the Disease. These programs include lectures in Arabic, English and Urdu.

It targets various sections of society including workers. The ministry provides free medical check-ups to workers and shares educational messages on various social media platforms. It has partnered with several government and tourism organizations in the country to participate in the global initiative. The ministry stated that it is committed to developing strategies to raise awareness among people regarding infectious diseases to establish a healthy and sustainable environment that prioritizes the health and well-being of all members of society.
