TSV Untergröningen is ready for the Oberliga

The table tennis ladies of TSV Untergröningen are back in the top league. This Sunday is the first game of the new season. The team will face TTV Weinheim-West II in their home gym and festival hall. This means that it will be a duel between the promoted teams. It starts at 2:10 p.m.

Champions in the Association Premier League

TSV was only in the top league for one season. The young team was able to secure the championship. In a total of 16 games, there were 13 wins, two draws and only one defeat. There were a few changes in the team. While Sabine Holzwarth moved back to her hometown (Neuhausen) and Nina Feil cannot play due to time constraints, TSV was able to gain two new players in Anja Eichner and Nina Merkel.

Anja Eichner is number one in the team

Anja Eichner moved from DJK Sportbund Stuttgart to Kochertal and will be the number one player in the team in the future. Anja Eichner most recently played in the top pair in the regional league for the state capital and was also a substitute in the first Stuttgart women’s team, which is chasing points in the third league. Nina Merkel most recently played for SSV Schönmünzach, but has already competed in the upper and regional leagues in the past. She will play in third place, behind Anja Eichner and Miriam Kuhnle. The team is completed by Cristina Krauß and Laura Henninger.

Satisfied with the preparation

As captain Laura Henninger reports, they are very satisfied with the preparation for the new season: “I think our current performance is good. Another positive thing is that we have been training properly again for a few weeks and will hopefully be in good shape for the first game.” As Laura Henninger continues, the four of them have often been able to train together. “That is also good for us as a team. Nina Merkel, who lives in Karlsruhe, has unfortunately only been able to train with us once so far. But she also fits in very well with the team.”

There are some favorites in the league

As Nina Merkel emphasizes, she was very well received in the team. “I immediately felt at home in the team. The atmosphere is great and all the players are looking forward to the upcoming season.” She considers the Oberliga to be very balanced. “In terms of the lineups alone, there are a lot of teams that can play at the top: Süßen, Schönmünzach, Burgstetten, Singen and Weil. In the end, it will depend on who has the best line-up.” Miriam Kuhnle adds that a lot also depends on the form of the day. “Personally, I believe that anyone can beat anyone in this league.”

The goal is to stay in the league

The goal for TSV Untergröningen is to secure their place in the league as quickly as possible. “I hope for the team that we can stay in the middle of the table through our playing performance,” says Cristina Krauß. Anja Eichner sees it similarly: “I want to show good performances for the team. We want to have fun together and enjoy the time. At the end of the season we want to end up in the middle of the table.”

Defeat at the start

A total of 18 games are scheduled for TSV in the Oberliga. Untergröningen’s opponent Weinheim-West II has already played one game, which they lost 3:7 at home to TTV Burgstetten. However, the team did not play with its best line-up. That may be the case next Sunday when the promoted teams meet.
