[Animal News]Timely action to help community animals in need can change lives. A cat mother in a community in Tsuen Wan suddenly paralyzed her lower body a few days ago. Fortunately, a female security guard who cared regarding animals found out, and contacted Miss Zheng, who usually feeds cats, for help. He and Mao Shou rescued the cat mother late at night. The cause of the cat’s paralysis is still unknown. X-rays show that she has no fractures, and she can feel her hind legs and tail, but she cannot move, or she needs an MRI to find out the cause. Ms. Zheng told this newspaper that the cat’s mother’s condition is not ideal, because she is afraid of people, so she can’t defecate manually. At present, the cat’s mother is taken care of by the Charity Association for the Protection of Animals (LAP), and I only hope that she can recover safely.
Ms. Zheng received a call from the female security guard at 11:00 p.m. on June 28, saying that a cat was suspected of being injured in the lower body. When she rushed downstairs, she found that the cat’s mother mightn’t move on her hind legs, and she was crawling with her hind feet when she walked. She contacted Mao Shou to come, but the cat mother hid without success. Until 4 am, the female security guard found the cat mother once more, covered her with styrofoam in time, and contacted Miss Zheng to go downstairs, and successfully put the cat into the cage and rescued it with the assistance of Mao Shou.
Although the cat mother was rescued, she did not escape, because it is not easy for community animals to obtain timely and proper medical treatment. Ms. Zheng made many phone calls very nervously, and also contacted Mao Shou, but Mao Shou refused to accept it because she had no resources. Cat Mao, finally found LAP willing to accept cat mother. Miss Zheng and the volunteers took the cat mother to the veterinarian yesterday, but the cat mother became ill because she was too frightened. The doctors and nurses might not check the nerve reaction of her hands and feet. They only took X-rays under the condition of sedation, but they found that she had no fractures. , MRI scans are required to have a chance to find the cause.
Ms. Zheng said that she didn’t know how serious the cat’s condition was. Now she can only take painkillers for relief, and she has not defecation since she was rescued, but she was too sick to defecate manually. Ms. Zheng also admitted that the MRI scan is very expensive, and she wondered whether the cat mother would have the opportunity to receive medical treatment. She was very worried regarding the cat mother’s condition.
This is Miss Zheng’s second time to save a cat. The first time she rescued a cat with peritonitis, she has become her family’s favorite cat following being cured. She described feeling helpless and anxious this time, because she saw that the cat mother was paralyzed in an emergency, but she kept calling and mightn’t find a group that might rescue the cat. She said: “This cat rescue experience made me panic. The feeling of being unknown and helpless has caused me a lot of pressure these two days, I shouted almost every day, and when I was talking to the volunteers on the phone when I went back to work, I mightn’t help shouting, and my emotions were out of control.”
