TSMC announced that the 3nm process has been officially mass-produced in Nanke Factory, and it has built beams for the eighth fab- 3C Technology News

previouslyAlready have media previewThe good news of TSMC’s new process is that TSMC officially held a 3nm process mass production and factory expansion ceremony yesterday, announcing the official launch of the new process, predicting that the global R&D center will open next year, and also announced the next-generation 2nm process chip. TSMC’s 3nm process will be mass-produced at 18 wafer sites located in Tainan Science Park. At the ceremony, Liu Deyin, chairman of TSMC, said that the current yield rate of TSMC’s 3nm process is already comparable to that of the 5nm process. At 5nm, the logic density of 3nm process will increase by regarding 60%, or the power consumption will be reduced by 30-35% at the same speed, and can support the innovative TSMC FINFLEX™ architecture.

TSMC also held the beam-raising ceremony for the eighth phase of the 18th fab. The 18th fab will be responsible for the 5nm and 3nm processes. The total investment in the 18th fab will exceed NT$1.86 billion , creating more than 23,500 construction jobs and more than 11,300 direct high-tech jobs.

Liu Deyin also predicts that in the first year when the 3nm process is launched, the revenue will exceed the contribution of the 5nm process in mass production in 2020, and will create a value of 1.5 trillion US dollars within five years. In the second quarter of this year, the Hsinchu Science Park will be officially opened. The 2nm fab will be located in Hsinchu and the Central Science Park respectively. A total of six phases of the project are under continuous planning.

In addition, in terms of the environmental protection design of the factory area, the construction of the Nanke factory area adopts the indicators of Taiwan’s green building EEWH and the American green building LEED certification system, and imports water resources from the “TSMC Nanke Industrial Recycled Water Plant”. The replacement rate of recycled water will gradually reach more than 60%. In addition, more than 20% of the energy used by the 18th fab is renewable energy, and it will achieve the sustainable goal of using 100% renewable energy and net zero emissions by 2050.
