TSJ urges compliance with the ruling that will be issued on the presidential elections

Caracas, Aug 2 (EFE).- Venezuela’s Supreme Court on Friday urged “all parties involved” to abide by the ruling that will be issued, in a period yet to be determined, on the review it will make of the election results of last Sunday, when Nicolás Maduro was proclaimed re-elected president, which has been questioned inside and outside the country.

“All citizens and political parties (…) are urged to abide by and respect the judgment inherent in this case.”says the minutes of the hearing that were read in front of nine of the ten candidates, except for Edmundo González Urrutia, the standard-bearer of the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), who claims to have emerged victorious in the contest.

“All candidates, political parties, the National Electoral Council (CNE) and other subjects involved in the aforementioned electoral event must submit all relevant legal documents that are required of them,” says the document, which was signed by eight former candidates, except Enrique Márquez – former rector of the electoral body -, who said that The event was held “without any transparency.”

The president of the TSJ, the Chavista Caryslia Rodríguez, explained that this hearing responds to the appeal for protection filed by Maduro, by which the Electoral Chamber of the court undertakes to “investigate, verify and certify in an unequivocal and unrestricted manner the results of these elections.”

At the end of the event, former candidates such as Enrique Márquez, Antonio Ecarri, Javier Bertucci, José Brito and Claudio Fermín reiterated the need for transparency and urged the CNE to publish the complete results of the elections, which remain unknown, which violates established regulations.

With 96.87% of the votes transmitted counted, according to the balance sheet presented today by the CNE, Maduro was re-elected with 51.95% of the votes, while González Urrutia obtained 43.18% of the votes.

However, the PUD published on a website “81%” of the electoral records that show, according to anti-Chavez supporters, that their candidate won the elections by a wide margin, a result recognized by countries such as Argentina, the United States and Peru.
