TSJ reviews physical records of presidential elections

Magistrates of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) – among them, its president, Caryslia Rodríguez – went to the National Electoral Council (CNE) to review the physical minutes of the presidential elections, in order to continue the process of “validation” of the results of these elections, in which the electoral body proclaimed the victory of President Nicolás Maduro, a disputed victory.

According to the state channel VTV, Rodríguez went with fellow TSJ members Inocencio Figueroa and Fanny Márquez, along with international experts and observers, to validate that the physical records match those received in the database of the national totaling centers of the CNE, in order to continue with the process – requested by Maduro – to “certify” the results of the presidential elections.

This procedure is moving forward despite calls from the Organization of American States (OAS), as well as from 22 countries and the European Union (EU) for the CNE to publish the electoral records and allow for an impartial verification of the presidential election results.

On Saturday, the majority opposition, grouped in the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), organized mobilizations inside and outside Venezuela to defend the “victory” that – it claims – its standard-bearer, Edmundo González Urrutia, obtained, according to “83.5%” of the “minutes” that he says he collected from witnesses and members of the table in the elections, documents that the Government describes as false.

González Urrutia was the only one of the 10 former candidates who did not appear before the TSJ for the judicial process, because he believes that the body will act in favor of Chavismo, contrary to what Maduro says, who assures that the institution is solid.
