In the first set, Tsitsipas started from his service with a “love game”, making a strong start, but Diaz Acosta “came back” with three games of his own (he broke in the third game) and took a significant lead. The improvement of the Greek champion’s serve and his “clean” hits put him back in front at 4-3 (with his own 3-0 and a break in the 6th game). But the same scene followed from the opposite bank. The Argentine made it 4-4 with a “love game”, made a second break and closed the set with his own serve at 6-4.
In the second set, the two athletes held their serve until Tsitsipas went 3-2, to be followed by a break from the Greek champion at a very decisive point (6th game) and another game that brought him to 5-2. Diaz Acosta held his serve in the 8th game, but with an impressive “love game” of his own, Tsitsipas “cleaned” the set 6-3.
In the third set, Diaz Acosta served first, however, in the third game the Greek champion broke him, which put him in a strong position, since he held immediately after his own serve (1-3). The Argentine, however, “answered” again with a three-game winning streak, taking advantage of Tsitsipas’ effortless errors and breaking his own (with four straight points) in the 6th game to take a 4-3 lead.
In the 8th game – and perhaps most decisive of the match – the Greek champion twice saved Diaz Acosta’s break point that would have brought him to 5-3, leveled at 4-4 and took… psychology to make another break of his own ( the third in the match) and go ahead 5-4. Diaz Acosta “came back” with his own break, took the very next game (6-5) and was one point away from victory.
With Tsitsipas serving, the Argentinian took advantage and a match point with three points in a row, but the 25-year-old champion and No. 7 in the world ranking “answered” with his own run of three points, tied at 6-6 and sent the match to the tie-break.
Dias Acosta and Tsitsipas held their serve until the 5th point, with the Argentine making two break points in a row and taking a 5-2 lead. The Greek champion, having reached the limit, made his own 2-0 on break points (in the second he made a double fault) and immediately after holding his own serve, he took a 6-5 lead. Tsitsipas’ backhand on his first match-point was misplaced and immediately afterwards the Argentine went to his own match point (7-6).
Tsitsipas “answered” with his own serves (8-7). Diaz Acosta’s double fault at 8-8 now “paved” the way for Tsitsipas to serve and this time (although he had to serve a second time) he won the point he was looking for and won the match 10-8.
