Having already returned to Greece, Thodoris Tselidis, who won the first medal for the country at the Olympic Games, uploaded a photo with the medal on social media in which he declares that he is proud to be Greek and… he apologizes because he still cannot speak the language.
“I am very proud that I managed to win the first Olympic medal in these games for this beautiful country. I am proud to be Greek and I want to apologize for not speaking Greek. It’s something that will be fixed soon,” he says.
Tselidis states in detail in his post…
“I want to thank everyone who supported me and watched me during the games. I am very happy. I didn’t expect to receive so many messages. I apologize for not being able to answer everything. I am very glad to read such beautiful words from you. I also want to thank Greece for giving me the opportunity to develop as an athlete.

I am very proud that I managed to win the first Olympic medal in these games for this beautiful country. I am proud to be Greek and I want to apologize for not speaking Greek. It’s something that will be fixed soon.

In addition, I want to thank the Hellenic Olympic Committee, the Hellenic Judo Federation, the coaches, doctors, physiotherapists and my friends for the help and support they have given me. I wish the rest of the Greek mission good luck. Thank you all again.”
