Jeddah: Border forces foiled an attempt to smuggle drugs into Saudi Arabia. 189 people were arrested while trying to smuggle drugs into the country through the border. More than 22 tons of drugs were seized from them.
The drugs were seized during a land patrol by the Border Force in Najran, Jizan, Asir and Tabuk regions. More than 21 tons of kath plants and one ton of hashish were seized from them.
They were caught during 14 days from January 29 to February 11. Col. Mizfar Al-Quraini, the official spokesman of the General Directorate of Border Guard, said that 189 suspects who tried to smuggle drugs were arrested during this period.
144 of those arrested are Yemeni citizens. Also 23 Ethiopian nationals, one Somali national and one Pakistani national have been arrested. Apart from this, 20 Saudi nationals were arrested during drug trafficking, officials said.
