Trying to eat a wasp; The Chinese YouTuber got the job A Chinese influencer said he will ‘not admit defeat’ after a video of him with swollen lips from eating a live wasp led to backlash

Trying to go viral on social media often puts people at risk. The same thing happened to a young Chinese social media influencer. According to South China Morning Post, the video has gone viral on Chinese video platform Dooin. The video was posted earlier this month.

The video shows a young man named Wang Kan trying to eat a wasp with a pair of chopsticks. When a wasp is placed in its mouth, it stings. With this, the young man is screaming in pain. The video then shows a close-up of Wang’s face. In it, his lips and face appear swollen.

According to the Morning Post report, Wang Kan has 560,000 followers. Wang’s primary Dooin account was suspended shortly following the controversial video was uploaded. But the video was once more uploaded on another account. On Twitter and TikTok, versions of the clip were retweeted by various users.

Some vloggers in China have previously faced action for posting controversial videos of eating live animals. In August, a Chinese streamer was arrested by police following a video of him eating a great white shark, a protected species in China. In May 2021, a food blogger from Hainan province was detained for eating an endangered sea snail, according to China Central Television.
