Atlanta, USA (CNN) — Media will not be allowed to broadcast former US President Donald Trump’s impeachment hearing Tuesday in a New York state court, a judge said Monday night, but some photographers will be allowed to take pictures in the courtroom before the proceedings officially begin.
Acting New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan denied several media organizations, including CNN, a request for permission to broadcast the historic hearing.
The impeachment hearing for the former US president, like most court hearings in Manhattan, is a public procedure, but media cameras are not usually allowed to broadcast from inside the courtroom.
However, the judge will allow five photographers to take pictures at the beginning of the proceedings “until such time as court staff instructs the photographers to vacate the jury area.”
Earlier Monday, Trump’s lawyers urged the judge to deny the media’s request for permission to report the proceedings live in the courtroom.
Trump is now in Manhattan before the trial, following the former president was indicted by a grand jury last week.
Trump’s trial is also expected to reveal the criminal charges once morest him, which his lawyers or the public have not yet seen.
