Trump’s running mate Vance booed by firefighters

The boos in the audience rang out right at the beginning of the senator’s appearance, but other spectators also applauded.

“Sounds like we have some fans and some haters,” the 40-year-old said at the conference in the East Coast metropolis of Boston. “That’s fine. Listen to what I have to say and I’ll make my point,” Vance continued.

During the speech, there were also boos from the audience alongside applause – for example when Vance said that he and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump were proud to be the most pro-worker Republican duo in history. The previous day, Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz had appeared at the conference – he received a much warmer reception.

Harris and Trump vie for firefighters’ union

Both Trump and his political opponent, Democrat Kamala Harris, are hoping for the union’s support ahead of the presidential election on November 5. The Firefighters’ Union (IAFF) is one of the most important employee representatives in the USA and has backed the Democrat and current US President Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election campaign.

Trump’s running mate, Vance, is struggling with poor popularity ratings. Trump made him his so-called running mate in July. Vance often appears awkward during the election campaign. A video showing the senator at a campaign event in a donut shop recently sparked ridicule.

In the clip, the saleswoman initially says that she does not want to be filmed. When Vance tells her a short time later that he wants to become Vice President of the United States, she reacts coolly with: “Okay.”

Previously, older videos had surfaced in which Vance made derogatory comments about childless women. In interviews, he defended his statements.
