Trump’s mass deportation plan would start with 1 million people, Vance says

Washington, Aug 11 (EFE).- Republican candidate for Vice President of the United States, JD Vance, said on Sunday that the mass deportation of undocumented immigrants, proposed by former President Donald Trump (2017-2021), should begin with one million immigrants.

“Let’s start with a million… And we can go from there,” the Ohio senator said in an interview on ABC’s This Week.

The Republican campaign has made immigration one of its most important battlegrounds. As in 2016, the former president has used undocumented immigrants and the border to win voters by promising to deport millions of immigrants.

In an interview with Time magazine, Trump said he would aim to deport 15 to 20 million people he says are undocumented in the United States, and that he would use the National Guard to do so.

The proposal has sparked criticism over the large number of undocumented immigrants that the Pew Center estimated would be in the country in 2022.

The feasibility of deporting such a large number has also been questioned.

Asked about the ability to carry out the plan, Vance said he and Trump would take a “sequential approach” to addressing these deportations.

“We have to start with what can be achieved,” the Republican added.

“I think if you deport a lot of violent criminals and, frankly, if you make it harder to hire illegal labor, which drives down wages for American workers, you go a long way toward solving the problem of illegal immigration,” he added.

Vance said he is “extremely confident” that he and Trump can win the election next November, despite polls showing momentum for the candidacy of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.
