Trump’s Absence Shakes Up Republican Primaries: Insights on the First Televised Debate

The first televised debate ahead of the Republican primaries in the US might take place without Donald Trump. This may be interviewed by the right-wing moderator Tucker Varlson, according to the “New York Times”, citing people involved. The television station CNN also reported that Trump does not plan to take part in the TV debate with the seven other applicants.

“A lot of people are asking if I’m going to take part in the debates,” Trump wrote on Thursday on the Truth Social platform. “Reagan didn’t do it, neither did others.”

«People know my performance, one of the best. Why should I debate? i am your man Let’s make America great once more.”

Observers see Trump’s actions as an affront to the Republican Party and the right-wing television station.

So far, along with Trump, seven other candidates meet Republican poll ratings and fundraising requirements to participate in the debate: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former US Vice President Mike Pence and Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina. Also on the list are entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.

Two other candidates are former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum. The Republican primary will be held between January and June next year, with the presidential election on November 5, 2024.
