As for the shift in US regulatory approach, it’s understandable given the current geopolitical climate. However,we believe that a balanced approach – one that encourages innovation while ensuring responsible AI development – is key to maintaining public trust and ethical standards in AI.

A: The EU has always been at the forefront of AI ethics and regulation. How does Europe plan to maintain this edge while competing in the global AI race?

EVP: Maintaining our focus on ethical AI development is indeed a priority. We believe that this focus is not only the right thing to do but also a competitive advantage. AI that respects human rights, is transparent, and protects personal data will be more embraced and trusted by users and businesses alike.

To achieve this,we’re investing in research on AI ethics and privacy-enhancing technologies. we’re also fostering international collaborations to promote our shared values in AI development. Our planned global AI summit, co-hosted by France, will serve as a platform for these discussions.

A: Last year, France announced a €7 billion investment in AI. What role will France play in Europe’s response to the US AI initiative?

EVP: France’s investment is a significant boost to european AI capabilities.
