Trump will not run again in 2028 if he loses the election

In an interview published on Sunday, the 78-year-old Republican presidential candidate said that he could not imagine running again in this case. But he is of course hoping for success in the election on November 5.

When asked about a possible re-election in 2028 if he loses, Trump said in an interview with the US news program “Full Measure”: “I don’t see that happening at all.” If the former president wins the election in around six weeks against his rival Kamala Harris, a re-election in 2028 would be out of the question anyway. According to an amendment to the US Constitution, a president can only serve two terms in office. This limit applies even if the two terms do not follow one another directly.

Trump was president from January 2017 to January 2021. He lost the election in November 2020 to the current incumbent, Joe Biden – a defeat that the right-wing populist has not acknowledged to this day. He continues to spread the conspiracy theory, which is not supported by facts, that the election was “stolen” from him through manipulation.

This year, too, Trump is refusing to commit to accepting defeat. Polls currently indicate an extremely close race between the former president and Vice President Harris. Harris again challenged Trump to a second TV debate at the weekend, but the Republican once again declined. It is “simply too late” for another debate, he said at a campaign event in the state of North Carolina.

Americans are already voting

The Republican was referring to the fact that polling stations for early voting have been open since Friday in the states of Minnesota, South Dakota and Virginia. With this option, the authorities want to enable citizens to vote despite possible scheduling difficulties. They also want to reduce the crowds on the actual election day.

CNN plans to broadcast a second debate between Trump and Harris on October 23. The 59-year-old vice president accepted the broadcaster’s invitation, her campaign team announced on Saturday. “The American people deserve another opportunity to see Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump debate,” said Harris’ campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon.

Harris and Trump had their first and probably only televised debate on September 10th on ABC News. According to polls and the majority opinion of political commentators, Harris won the duel. Trump nevertheless declared himself the winner of the debate. Harris had put his opponent on the defensive with numerous pointed attacks during the debate. Trump also went so far as to make the racist accusation, which was not supported by any facts, that migrants were stealing and eating the dogs and cats of residents in the city of Springfield in the US state of Ohio.

Immediately after the debate, Harris had already challenged him to a second duel, but the former president rejected this at the time.
