United States – Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said that Microsoft informed him that one of his campaign websites was hacked by the Iranian government, which Iran denied.
Trump stressed that “Iran will not stop,” and attributed this to the weakness and ineffectiveness of the current US administration, but he stressed that this matter “will not last long,” according to him.
For its part, the campaign of Republican candidate in the US presidential elections, Donald Trump, said yesterday, Saturday, that some of its internal communications had been hacked, and accused the Iranian government of being responsible for it.
The campaign’s announcement came after Politico said it began receiving emails from an anonymous account containing documents from within the Trump campaign, including a report on “potential vulnerabilities” for J.D. Vance, Trump’s running mate.
The Trump campaign blamed the hack on what it called foreign sources hostile to the United States, pointing to a Microsoft report this week that Iranian hackers sent a phishing email in June to a senior official in a presidential campaign, without specifying which campaign.
A Microsoft spokesperson declined to name the officials who were targeted, or provide additional details after the report was published.
“These documents were illegally obtained from foreign sources hostile to the United States with the intent to interfere in the 2024 election and sow chaos throughout our democratic process,” Trump campaign spokesman Stephen Cheung said in a statement.
“The Iranians know that President Trump will stop their rule of terror, as he did in the first four years of his presence in the White House,” Cheung said.
In contrast, Iran’s mission to the United Nations in New York said it denies allegations that Tehran hacked the election campaign of presidential candidate Donald Trump.
She stressed that Iran has no purpose or motive to interfere in the US presidential elections.
The Iranian mission also said in response to Microsoft’s findings that its cyber capabilities are “defensive and proportionate to the threats it faces” and that it has no intention of launching cyber attacks.
Relations between former US President Trump and Iran had witnessed tension during his presidency, which witnessed the US assassination of Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani in 2022, in addition to its withdrawal from the nuclear agreement concluded with Tehran.
