Trump threatens EU, China if he wins White House again

Trump said in an interview with Bloomberg published on Tuesday that he would impose new tariffs on China ranging from 60% to 100% and 10% tariffs on imports from other countries.

As president, Trump has shattered long-standing Republican orthodoxy that supports free trade, and he says he will go even further if re-elected.

Trump, defending “US tariffs,” said he intended to raise tariffs not only on China but also on the European Union.

Biden’s actions are seen in Trump’s world as confirmation that the former president was right and his Democratic critics were wrong regarding the threat China poses to the American economy and security, according to the agency.

Trump is eager to prescribe more of the same medicine, including to European allies. In addition to targeting China with new tariffs, he says he will impose a 10% tariff on imports from other countries, citing a familiar list of complaints regarding foreign countries not buying enough American goods.

“The phrase European Union sounds so beautiful,” Trump says. “We love Scotland, we love Germany, we love all these places. But once you cross that, they treat us violently.”

In his extensive interview with Bloomberg, the Republican candidate confirmed that he does not welcome the idea of protecting Taiwan and Washington imposing sanctions on Russia, adding: “I do not like sanctions.”
