The last two US presidents discussed the transfer of power on January 20, with Trump telling Biden in front of the global press that it would be “as smooth as possible” after the Republican attempted to challenge the results four years ago, which culminated in the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.
Trump told the Washington Post about the process of selecting officials for his second term: “It is going very smoothly,” adding that “the Republican transition team and the White House led by Biden have a very good relationship.”
The president-elect added that he and Biden discussed two issues over which they had disagreed in the past: “the war in Ukraine, which Trump promised to end immediately upon taking office, and the ongoing war in the Middle East.”
Trump said: “I wanted to know his opinions, and we talked a lot about the Middle East as well.” I wanted to know his opinions on where we are now and what he thinks. “He gave it to me, and he was very nice.”
The president-elect also revealed that he and Biden expect to meet again just before his inauguration, which the current Democratic president said he will attend.
At the end of his speech to the newspaper, Trump said: “The Oval Office is very beautiful and I am definitely looking forward to it.” [للعودة]”.
It is noteworthy that this meeting is the first between Biden and Trump since the latter’s victory in the US presidential elections.
Donald Trump won the presidential elections that took place on November 5, after he had assumed the US presidency after the 2016 elections, becoming the first American politician since the 19th century to return to the White House, after a 4-year break.
While US President Joe Biden spoke to Trump and congratulated him, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris addressed her supporters and acknowledged her defeat to Trump.
The Electoral College, representing the states, is scheduled to vote for the candidates according to the will of the voters, and Congress will approve the voting results on January 6, and the inauguration will take place on January 20.
