Trump returns to Facebook more than two years later

Former US President Donald Trump returned to Facebook more than two years following his account was suspended.
“I’m back!” Trump posted on the site weeks following his account was reactivated. The former president, who is in his third campaign for the presidency of the United States, also shared a video in which he says: “I’m sorry I kept you waiting. There were some tricky issues.”
He posted the same video on YouTube, which on Friday announced that it was also receiving it once more on its platform.

Metathe parent company of Facebook, had said in January that he would reactivate Trump’s personal account in the coming weeks, ending a suspension that he imposed following the insurrection of January 6, 2021, when supporters of the then president violently stormed the federal Capitol in an attempt to stop the peaceful transition of power.
On February 9, his Facebook and Instagram accounts were reactivated, the company confirmed.
“The public should be able to hear what their politicians are saying—the good, the bad, and the ugly—so they can make informed decisions at the polls,” Nick Clegg, Meta’s vice president of global affairs, wrote at the time.

The company also said it would add “new protection barriers” to ensure there are no “repeat infringers.” who violate its rules, even if they are political candidates or leaders.
Facebook, the world’s largest social network, had been an tool and a crucial source of revenue-raising for Trump’s two previous campaigns.
For its part, YouTube announced Friday in a tweet that: “As of today, Donald J. Trump’s channel is no longer restricted and can upload new content.”
