Washington. – Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump announced Thursday that if he wins on November 5, artificial insemination treatments will be covered by his administration or by insurance companies.

“The government will pay or insurance companies will be required to pay all costs associated with artificial insemination treatments,” he said at a rally in Potterville, Michigan.

The 78-year-old former president said he is in favor of this measure because they want there to be “more babies.”

“For the same reason, we will also allow new parents to deduct the large expenses of the newborn from their taxes. (…) We are pro-family. No one has said this before, but artificial insemination treatments are expensive. For many people it is very difficult to do it and to obtain it, but I have been in favour of in vitro fertilisation (IVF) from the beginning,” he explained.

The website healthinsurance.org, which offers a guide to insurers, notes that federal law does not require any insurance plan to cover infertility treatments because assisted reproduction is not considered an essential health benefit.

By the end of 2023, however, according to its data, 21 of the country’s 50 states and the District of Columbia, where the capital, Washington, D.C., is located, had passed laws requiring at least some state-regulated insurance plans to partially cover infertility services.
