Trump material leaked to the press

At least three media outlets have received leaked confidential material from Donald Trump’s campaign, including his report on accepting JD Vance as his running mate, but all three have so far refused to publish it.

Instead, Politico, The New York Times and The Washington Post have written about a potential hack of the campaign and described the material they received in broad terms.

His decisions stand in sharp contrast to the 2016 campaign, when a Russian hack exposed emails belonging to Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager, John Podesta.

The Wikileaks website published several of the embarrassing emails, and news organizations eagerly covered them.

Politico wrote over the weekend about emails it received beginning July 22 from a person identified as “Robert,” which included a 271-page document on Vance and part of a report on Sen. Marco Rubio, who was also considered a possible running mate.

Both Politico and the Post said two people independently confirmed the authenticity of the documents.

“Like many documents evaluating candidates,” the Times wrote, “these contained past statements that could be embarrassing or damaging, such as Mr. Vance’s comments about his doubts about Mr. Trump.”

What is not known is who leaked the documents.

Politico claimed that it did not know who Robert was and that when it spoke to the alleged informant, he said: “I recommend that you do not be curious about where I got the documents from.”
