Trump makes promise to Zelensky if he wins presidency

United States – Former US President Donald Trump confirmed that he spoke by phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and promised him that if he returned to the White House, he would “end the war” that has been going on for 29 months between Ukraine and Russia.

“I will bring peace to the world and end a war that has cost so many lives,” the Republican presidential candidate wrote on his Truth Social platform if he becomes the next president of the United States.

Trump added that he would end the war in Ukraine before he even takes office in January if he wins the election on November 5.

The former US President (2017-2021) described the call he had on Friday with the Ukrainian President as “very good,” and stressed that Ukraine and Russia would be able to negotiate an agreement to end the violence and pave the way for prosperity, as he put it.

Trump vows to end Gaza and Ukraine wars if elected president

Trump pledged yesterday, Friday, in a speech in which he announced his acceptance of the Republican Party’s nomination for the presidency, to end “every international crisis created by the current administration, including the terrible war between Russia and Ukraine,” as he put it, and he also pledged to end the Gaza war.

Trump has often said he would be able to end the conflict in Ukraine very quickly when he returns to power, but he has offered no details on how that would happen. His frequent praise of Russian President Vladimir Putin and criticism of other NATO members has raised concerns among Ukraine’s Western allies.

The United States, led by Joe Biden, is by far the largest donor of military aid to Kyiv, so a Trump victory might jeopardize any future aid and weaken Ukraine’s position on the battlefield, observers say.

Zelensky, for his part, confirmed that the phone call took place in which he congratulated Trump on being officially named the Republican Party’s presidential candidate.

“I stressed the vital support of both parties and both houses of the US Congress to protect our nation’s freedom and independence,” he wrote on his X account.

“We agreed with President Trump to discuss, in a face-to-face meeting, the steps that must be taken towards a just and lasting peace” in Ukraine, he added.

The Ukrainian president condemned the assassination attempt on Trump last Saturday in Pennsylvania, describing it as “horrific.”
