The Republican Donald Trump does not make his intentions clear, as he refused to explicitly commit to recognizing the result of the US elections next November, in which he will face Joe Biden again.
“If everything is done honestly, I would gladly accept the results,” Donald Trump said of the US election in an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel of Wisconsin. “But if that doesn’t happen, then we will have to fight for the good of the country,” he added.
The 77-year-old tycoon had made similar statements in the 2020 presidential election. Trump never acknowledged his defeat against Democrat Biden.
“In short: Donald Trump is a danger to the Constitution and our democracy,” a representative of Biden’s campaign staff commented, referring to this interview.
In another interview, published Tuesday, Trump did not rule out the possibility of “political violence” after the election. “If we don’t win, you know, it will depend,” he told Time magazine.
Trump supporters stormed Capitol Hill in January 2021 to block the ratification of Biden’s victory in that election. Trump himself is being prosecuted for his role in this attack and for attempting to overturn the outcome in the State of Georgia.
