What happened during Trump’s rally?
According to US media, the gunfire appeared to have erupted following Trump began speaking at the aforementioned rally.
The former president was beginning to stir up the crowd when up to five shots were heard and he fell to the ground, surrounded by Secret Service agents.
“And then the worst president in the history of our country took power. And look what happened to our country. Probably 20 million people [entraron ilegalmente]. And, you know, that’s a little bit old, that graph… that graph is from a couple of months ago. And if you want to really see something that sad, take a look at what happened over…” Trump said before shots rang out.
As he was led away, with what appeared to be blood on his head, he raised his arms defiantly, US media reported.
What is Trump’s current status?
“Former President Trump thanks security and first responders for their swift response to this despicable act. He is safe and being treated at a local medical facility,” spokesman Steve Cheung said in a statement.
The Republican candidate had been on stage for only ten minutes and following small explosions, similar to gunshots, rang out, he was taken off the stage with blood on his ear and part of his face.
It was his last public meeting before the Republican National Convention, which runs from Monday to Thursday in Milwaukee and will confirm his nomination for the November 5, 2024 elections, in which he will face President Joe Biden.
According to US media, two people were killed, including the alleged attacker. Regarding these events, the president of Guatemala, Bernardo Arévalo, condemned these events on his X account: “The path of violence is not the path of democracy. I regret and condemn the attack suffered by candidate Trump in the US, and I hope for his speedy recovery,” says Arévalo.
