Trump: “I look better than Kamala”

His Democratic opponent is said to have an advantage because of her attractiveness, the 78-year-old said at a campaign appearance in the US state of Pennsylvania, adding: “I look much better than her. I think I look better than Kamala.”

Trump commented on the Democrat’s laughter by saying it was “the laughter of a madwoman.” It is not the first time that the Republican has addressed Harris’s appearance or attacked women in this way. He has often used the word “crazy” for female politicians on the opposing side in the past – for example in 2016 for the Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton during the election campaign at the time.

Referring to Harris, Trump said he was asked not to call her a “madwoman.” “But that’s what she is. A madwoman,” the former president said.

Democrats are “radical leftists”

At the event, he again portrayed the Democrat as a radical leftist and called her a “communist.” He also sharply attacked US President Joe Biden. The USA is governed by “stupid people,” he claimed. Although he is advised to avoid such insults, he cannot think of a better word than “stupid.” “How else can you describe it? (…) It’s a perfect word.”

Trump again accused Biden and Harris of allowing criminal “lunatics” into the country across the southern border with their migration policies. He also repeated the false claim that his 2020 election victory had been stolen from him. He warned that this could happen again in 2024.

Trump also once again used the emotional gender debate surrounding Olympic champions Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting for his election campaign. He promised to “keep men out of women’s sports,” the 78-year-old ranted. Trump did not name the boxers, but said that men who had been turned into women had competed in boxing at the Olympic Games.

In Paris, the fights between 25-year-old Khelif from Algeria and 28-year-old Lin Yi-ting from Taiwan were met with criticism. The dispute over gender identity is increasingly being seen as a culture war, especially in conservative circles. The debate went far beyond the question of fair competition in sports and also reached the highest political circles. In the heated social and political atmosphere, both athletes experienced a lot of hostility on the Internet. Trump also called it “crazy” that the two boxers had taken part in the games. “It is so degrading for women.”

Infrastructure instead of climate protection

Trump promised his supporters, among other things, tax cuts and the redirection of funds for climate protection into infrastructure. He wanted to reduce energy prices by increasing the promotion of fossil fuels.

With Pennsylvania, Trump wants to secure a US state in the election campaign where natural gas production plays a major role. Pennsylvania is a swing state in which both parties traditionally fight for the vote. Close races are also expected in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina and Wisconsin. However, because of its population size, Pennsylvania is at the top of the priority list for both sides. After Biden withdrew as the Democratic candidate, Harris quickly caught up in the polls, putting Trump under increasing pressure.
