Trump described being golfing on a nice day when he heard “probably four or five gunshots” at close range. He was immediately evacuated from the scene by the Secret Service. He praised Tu for doing an excellent job of having her agents spot the gunman and engage him after spotting a rifle barrel in the bushes, as well as escorting him off the golf course.

Once his guards sensed the danger, they “moved pretty briskly,” Trump said, according to BBC News. While he would still like to putt the ball in the hole, “but we decided to get out of there,” he said in his first public appearance since the attack.
The former president also recalled a previous plot against his life that he faced in July in Butler, Pennsylvania. He accused his political enemies that their rhetoric calling him a “danger to democracy” had influenced the two suspects, whom he called “radical leftists”, without providing evidence for the claim, the BBC said.
‘God wants me to be president’
“Maybe God wants me to be president to save this country,” Trump said.
On July 13, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks from a nearby suburb of Pittsburgh shot at Trump in the city of Butler, after several shots he was killed on the spot by snipers. Crooks left no message explaining his actions and did not appear to have expressed strong political views or hatred towards the ex-president.
The suspect in Sunday’s assassination attempt, 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, has so far heard two charges related to illegal possession of a firearm. However, according to the AP agency, it is possible that even more serious charges will be brought against him. According to US Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe, the suspect did not fire any shots during the alleged assassination attempt.

Trump was playing golf at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Sunday when members of his security guard noticed a rifle sticking out of a hedge and opened fire on the gunman. Routh fled the scene and was later caught by police.
He left a gun, two backpacks and a GoPro camera at the scene. Routh’s cell phone location records show the suspect was at Trump’s golf course approximately 11 hours before he was discovered by the former president’s bodyguards, according to the indictment.
After Sunday’s incident, President Joe Biden expressed relief that Trump was fine and said there was no place for political violence in the US. He later told reporters that the Secret Service “needs more help.”
According to CNN, the campaign of Kamala Harris, who will face Trump in the November election, will not make a political statement about Sunday’s incident, and any statement will be in the same vein as the White House’s previous statement. “This is not a political moment,” said an aide to the Democratic presidential candidate’s campaign.
