The young athlete from Trujillo, Abel Suárez, belonging to the Fernando Matheus Dojo, climbed onto the podium in the kata specialty at the South American Karate Do Championship held in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia.
Suárez gave Venezuela a bronze medal in the U-14 category, being the only karateka in this category who was called up by the Federation in both modalities (kata and kumite). In kumite he finished fourth.
In his first call-up to the National Team, he showed the good work done in his dojo, together with the young sensei Luis Bravo, who accompanied him in the South American event. The competition in the championship was high, facing rivals from countries such as Colombia, Chile, Peru and Brazil. This last delegation was the one that obtained first place in the General Medal Table.
Another piece of excellent news is that Sensei Bravo has obtained the Coaching License from the South American Karate Confederation (CSK). Both Bravo and Shihan Fernando Matheus, who are in charge of the renowned Trujillo dojo, feel “great satisfaction with Abel’s development, not only on a technical level, but also in his character and personality, since that is the main focus of karate do.”
They themselves thanked “all the people and companies that contributed their grain of sand to achieve the event’s logistics, as well as for the trust placed in them.” They extended congratulations to the other athletes of the national team, who contributed their effort to position the country in second place in the medal table.
