The accident occurred Thursday around 7:30 a.m. while Tony, a truck driver, was on his way to Staden’s business. That’s when he crashed into the back of another truck in a traffic jam. The shock is impressive and causes great damage. In fact, the cabin of his truck was torn off and Tony was seriously injured.
The emergency services quickly intervened and following half an hour he was taken to hospital. “They don’t call me Tony the Viking for nothing,” he confides to Nieuwsblad journalists from his hospital bed in Kortrijk. “It’s because of my rugged appearance.” I can consider myself happy.”
“Tony slowed down to allow a truck coming from the R8 to move in,” his sister continued. “The truck went straight into the second lane and Tony hit a stationary truck. The impact was enormous. It was when I saw the images of the cabin that I feared the worst. Fortunately, he didn’t go through the cabin.”
Despite multiple injuries, Tony already wants to return to his cabin next week. “He has two broken ribs,” his sister concludes. “It gets him into a lot of trouble, especially when he turns around and laughs (laughs). Finally, he also suffered a compound fracture of his toe and some facial injuries. It will take weeks of rehabilitation, but our Viking has little appetite for that. He would like to get back in his truck next week, but that’s obviously not possible.”
