First tractors, now also trucks: truck drivers have been protesting on Munich’s Theresienwiese since 10 a.m. The organizer is the Association of Bavarian Transport and Logistics Companies (LBT).

According to a police spokesman, around 1,600 trucks came to the large demonstration; 800 vehicles were originally announced. The trucks are parked close together, honking in front of the Bavaria. Many have attached banners to their cabs saying things like “Without us, no food” or “No double CO2 burden for tolls and diesel.” More vehicles are constantly being added, mostly trucks, but also small vans and tractors. The stationary rally is scheduled to last until 4 p.m.

There were largely no traffic disruptions

Also taking part in the protest are Bavaria’s Deputy Prime Minister Hubert Aiwanger (Free Voters) and Bavaria’s Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter (CSU). Farmers are also present.

From the police perspective, the traffic disruptions feared in advance largely did not occur; the journey in the morning hours was trouble-free and orderly, said the spokesman.

Trucks from all over Bavaria drove mainly on the motorways to Munich (A94, A95, A96, A995 and the A8). But the managing director of the association, Stephan Doppelhammer, also expected more trucks on the Middle Ring and in the rest of the city.

Protest convoy from Bad Aibling to Munich

The Munich police also expected traffic disruptions and asked the protesters in advance to use the routes recommended by the organizers. So the motorways and the Middle Ring. “But everyone is free to find their own way through Munich,” says the protest organizers’ flyer.

In addition to the rally on Theresienwiese, a protest convoy has also been registered that will start in Bad Aibling and will travel to Munich, accompanied by the police.
