Frosty ice in sections due to freezing drizzle
St. Pölten (OTS) – On the state roads B and L in Lower Austria today there are predominantly dry to partly salt-wet roads, in the higher elevations of the Wald-, Most- and Industrieviertel you have to expect some scattered snow roads. In the areas of Persenbieg, Mistelbach, Schrems, Zwettl, Groß Gerungs, Gaming, Scheibbs, Mank, Lilienfeld, St. Pölten, Atzenbrugg, Korneuburg and Pottenstein, areas are experiencing slippery conditions due to freezing drizzle. The necessary spreading operations are underway everywhere.
Chains are now required for vehicles weighing 3.5 tonnes or more on the B 21 over the Ochsattel and on the L 5217 between Morigraben and Kirchberg to Lilienfeld. Vehicles weighing 7.5 tons or more must put on snow chains on the L 5226 between Plankenstein and Weißenbach and on the L 72 at Mühlbacher Berg from the intersection with the L 8304 to Steinbach.
Due to flooding, the border crossings into Slovakia on the L 3016 state road in Angern an der March and on the B 48 in Hohenau an der March are closed. In Neulengbach there are light snowdrifts in sections. In the Scheibbs area there is ground fog in places with visibility between 30 and 50 meters. The temperatures this morning ranged from -6 degrees, which were measured in Melk, Groß Gerungs, Ottenschlag and Pöggstall, to +2 degrees in Neunkirchen and Wiener Neustadt.
