Truant Day 2024
March 21, i.e the first day of astronomical spring it’s also truant day. Many students decide to take a day off from classes at this time and, following the maxim of an informal holiday, play truant. However, this is not legal.
A truant day is not a day off from classes. If lessons are organized at school, the student is obliged to participate in them. If students want to legally miss classes on a truant day, they must bring an excuse. There is no other option.
However, more and more schools are trying to limit or, in their own way, legalize truancy (on this day) by organizing school and extracurricular events.
Melting madder – a symbol of welcoming spring
One of the proposals is joint drowning Marzanna, i.e. a symbolic act of saying goodbye to winter and welcoming spring. In Slavic mythology, Marzanna was the goddess of winter, death and rebirth. The figure symbolized cold and end, and at the same time it was the beginning of a new life with the arrival of spring. Throwing an effigy into water – prepared for this occasion – symbolizes just that getting rid of the winter cold and recalling warmer and happier days.
First day of spring
Astronomical spring began on Wednesday (March 20). A day later by calendar. Astronomical will last until the summer solstice, calendar year will end on June 21.
It is also worth remembering that meteorological spring began at the beginning of March. It will last until May 31. There is also a thermal spring – it started around mid-February. This is the period in which the average daily air temperature remains at 5-15 degrees Celsius for at least 5 days in a row.
