Tropicale Amissa Bongo: HM the King’s Ambassador to Gabon meets the national cycling team

Libreville – HM the King’s Ambassador to Gabon, Abdellah Sbihi, met, in Libreville, the Moroccan national cycling team, having taken part in the 16th edition of the “Tropicale Amissa Bongo” Tour.

This meeting was an opportunity for Mr. Sbihi to salute the will, the patience and the courage of the Nationals, who managed to cross, brilliantly, several provinces of Gabon, despite certain difficulties linked in particular to the heat and fierce opposition. which leaves very little respite.

In this wake, the Moroccan diplomat took news relating to the conditions of participation of Moroccans in the Tropicale Amissa Bongo, as well as those related to their stay in Gabon.

In addition, the Ambassador of HM the King wanted to encourage the Moroccan runners, while wishing them more success and success in the next continental and international competitions.

For his part, the young runner Achraf Ed-Doghmi wished, on behalf of his teammates, to express his thanks to the Ambassador of HM the King.

He underlined that the participation in the Tropicale Amissa Bongo remains a good lesson, while noting that the multiple adventures of this Tour have shown to all the staff the strengths and those to be improved to approach the next events, in the occurrence, the African Championships in Accra.

Achraf Ed-Doghmi has, in this sense, said that the Nationals will be there, equipped with a great will to defend the colors of the Kingdom in Ghana.

The Moroccan bike has participated, since Monday, in the 16th Tour of Gabon. This will be followed by two participations in the Tours du Sahel in Mauritania, and that of Rwanda.

The Nationals will then participate in the African Championship, which will take place in the Ghanaian capital, Accra, from February 8 to 13. The objective is to earn as many points as possible and qualify for the world championships which will take place from August 3 to 13, 2023 in Glasgow, and for the Olympic Games (Paris 2024).

The Frenchman Geoffrey Soupe of the TotalEnergies team won the 16th edition of the Tropicale Amissa Bongo, at the end of the 7th stage run on Sunday on a circuit through the arteries of Libreville over a distance of 133 km.

For his part, Achraf Ed-Doghmi finished the Tour in 17th position among 84 riders.

The winners of the different categories put on their shirts and received their prizes, in the presence of the Gabonese President, Ali Bongo Ondimba, the Vice President of the Republic, Rose Christiane Ossouka Raponda, the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Alain-Claude Bilié. -By-Nzé, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Frank Nguema, several diplomats, as well as personalities belonging to the world of sport in general, cycling in particular.

Six Moroccan riders took part in the 16th edition of the Gabon Cycling Tour (Tropicale Amissa Bongo), from January 23 to 29 (UCI 2.1 category).

They are Achraf Ed-Doghmi, Adil El Arbaoui, Hussein Sabbahi, Hassan Saber, Youssef Bdadou and Chakir Baballah, supervised by former cycling champion, national coach Abdelati Saadoune.
