The Forecast Center of the Cuban Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) has issued its first tropical cyclone warning about Tropical Storm Nadine, which formed in the last few hours in the western Caribbean Sea.
According to the part issued at 2:00 am on October 19, 2024, Nadine is the fourteenth tropical storm of the current hurricane season.
The data obtained through satellite images confirm that the low pressure system that was under surveillance has gained in organization and intensity, reaching maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour, with higher gusts, and a minimum central pressure of 1004 hectopascals.
At two in the morning, the center of Nadine was located at 17.3 degrees North latitude and 86.4 degrees West longitude, approximately 190 kilometers east of Belize City. The storm is moving west at a speed of 13 kilometers per hour.
Over the next 12 to 24 hours, Nadine is expected to continue its trajectory heading between the west and the west-northwest, slightly increasing its speed.
Nadine will make landfall on the Yucatan Peninsula
According to the forecast, the storm will make landfall around noon this Saturday on the Yucatan Peninsula, mainly affecting the territory of Belize. Once on land, Nadine is expected to begin to weaken rapidly.
Although the storm does not represent a direct threat to Cuba at this time, its circulation bands could generate some rain and thunderstorms on the western end of the island, with the potential to be locally intense.
INSMET will issue its next tropical cyclone warning at 6:00 pm today. The authorities recommend that the population stay informed through official media, since weather conditions may vary.
