ADAN Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) is monitoring two tropical cyclones that are affecting the weather in a number of regions in Indonesia. First, Tropical Cyclone Megan in the Gulf of Carpentaria with a maximum wind speed of 60 knots and minimum air pressure of 978 hPa is moving south-southwest.

“It is estimated that the maximum wind speed of tropical cyclone Megan will increase in the next 24 hours to category three. Tropical cyclone Megan is moving in a south-southwest direction away from Indonesia,” said BMKG, Sunday (17/3).

Meanwhile, tropical cyclone Megan will have an indirect impact on the weather in a number of areas. These include moderate to heavy rain in East Java, Bali, NTT, Maluku and Papua. Apart from that, strong winds of 25 knots will be present in East Java, Bali, Maluku and Papua.

Second, tropical cyclone seed 91S was observed in the southeastern Indian Ocean, south of Bali, with a maximum wind speed of 25-30 knots and a minimum air pressure of 1000 hPa moving west-northwest.

“Cyclone 91S will become a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours in the low category and move west-southwest,” he said.

The spawn of a tripis cyclone will have an impact on sea waves of 1.25 to 2.5 meters high in a number of waters. These include waters west of Lampung, south of Sunda, waters north of Central Java Island to East Java, Bali Sea, Sumbawa Sea, and even the Flores Sea.

“Be careful when doing activities outside the home and always update information regarding weather, climate, air quality, earthquakes and tsunamis. Complete information can be accessed at www.bmkg.go.id or on the BMKG info application,” concluded BMKG. (Z-2)
