Trond Giske confirms that he is standing for the Storting

– I think I have something to contribute. That is why I have agreed to stand for the Storting for the Labor Party in Sør-Trøndelag and stand in one of the top four places, says Trond Giske to channels.

When asked if he is afraid that candidacies will create new conflicts in Trøndelag Ap, he replies:

– It is good that a party as large as Trøndelag Ap has several candidates. Then we get reconciliations, and we live well with that.

– Exciting voting

There has been tension over whether Giske would run as a candidate or not. The representatives of the Trondheim Labor Party will decide on Thursday which candidates they want on their list. The final decision will come in November. The Sør-Trøndelag Labor Party will then adopt the nomination list.

Giske believes it will be an exciting vote, writes Adressa.

– There are divided opinions, so it is exciting, he says.

At the same time, he points out that he has received many calls both from outside and within the party to run.

Split on the setting

A minority on the board of Trondheim Ap has come up with a proposal that does not include Giske. Instead, they want Karianne Tung, Kirsti Leirtrø, Sara Shafighi, Per Olav Skurdal Hopsø and a candidate from AUF, writes NRK.

– It is a completely legitimate part of democracy. I am happy that there are more candidates for the Storting list. We can tolerate a vote tonight, says Giske to Adressa.

Giske stood for the Storting in 2021. In the time since, he has built up the party team Nidaros social democratic forum, which is the largest local team in Trondheim. He is also deputy chairman of Trondheim Ap.

In 2018, he had to resign as deputy leader of the Labor Party as a result of several notifications relating to sexual harassment and inappropriate behaviour. The party concluded that Giske had broken the party’s internal guidelines.
