Tripp trapp chair’s father Peter Opsvik has died

The family says so The daily Børsen. Peter Opsvik was born in Stranda in 1939. His uncle Jon Ringstad established the furniture factory Stranda Industri A/S where his father Nils became a co-owner.

The iconic Tripp trapp chair was launched for Stokke factories in 1972 and is by far Norway’s best-selling chair. Opsvik has been awarded a number of prizes and awards, and in 2006 the Tripp trapp chair was named the Norwegian piece of furniture of all time.

In addition to the iconic children’s chair, Opsvik was known for the Capisco office chair and for its work with ergonomics and mobility in its products, for example in the Balans chairs. Sunnmøringen was concerned with making chairs that make the sitting person move.

Opsvik also worked with graphics, images and objects. He made his debut at the Vestland Show in 1966 and the Statens Høstutstillingen in 1967.

As a saxophonist and clarinetist, he was in the Christiania Jazzband from 1972 and Christiania 12 from 1973. In 1973, Opsvik received the Spellemann prize. In 1999, the disc Woodwork (NorCD) came out, where he plays free-jazz and contemporary music. Opsvik’s son, Eivind Opsvik, is also a jazz musician.

In the year 2000, Opsvik and members of the family established the environmental foundation The Minor Foundation, which every year gives money from the dividend to environmental projects all over the world, according to Large Norwegian encyclopedia.
